I graphed the gradual rise in Horsepower in the cars I've owned and used Excel to extrapolate into the future.

Apparently my 9th car will have around 700HP which is nice. I can’t wait to see how accurate this is. Pictures of the cars in order below.

I think you should do it again, but make your x axis by year ac quired for a more accurate prediction

(I actually did graph it and it only came out to about 1200HP for car #9)

I tried that at first but the big gap from 1971-2002 made the trendline look a bit wonky and didn’t look as pretty.

Looks like your next car’s model year will be 2023.

1987 SAAB 9000s - 130hp (2000-2004)

1998 Lexus ES 300 - 210hp (2004-2006 )

1997 BMW 740iL - 282hp (2006 -2009 )

2009 Subaru WRX - 265hp (2009-2010)

2010 Subaru WRX (modified) - 326hp (2010-2014)

2014 Subaru BRZ - 200hp ( 2014- present)

I4 to V6 to V8 to H4T to H4

I had a good trend going then I went and ruined it, guess I should have gone with the C6 Zo6 and stuck with it (tire costs would have ruined me). I’ve only got pictures of the last 2 (there might be film photos of the earlier ones somewhere).

This is an interesting exercise. I’ll have to do the same, but I am already on car #9 and I haven’t made it to 700hp yet.

I’m kinda all over the place...

Kinja'd!!!

To be honest, I suspect I’ll be punching through the upper confidence bound on my next car, by a lot , but that’s years down the line.

Did you buy the B in 1971? Model year wouod certainly make it not great.

How bout power :weight next.

Kinja'd!!!1

Power to weight would probably give a more realistic answer.

94/2260 = 0.0416

138/2200 = 0.0627

268/3300 = 0.0812

305/3400 = 0.0897

Kinja'd!!!

So by year 9 you will be at a power to weight ratio of 0.17. Now that probably gives you around 680 hp in a 4000 pound vehicle which is pretty neat. Although it is probably not safe to assume power to weight would remain linear lol.

Just doing weight gives you a car in the 5500 pound range which would make the 700hp less exciting!

see the graph I made for him:

Kinja'd!!!

Surprisingly roughly also works out to the same 700hp figure if you assume a 4000 pound car. Which sounds realistic enough.

Your 9th car will have around -150 horsepower. It won’t go very fast but it will travel exclusively back in time. The drive back to the 70's will take a while but you should be able to pick up a used GT40 in 1973 for cheap

Your automotive choices confused excel and 7 cars from now, whatever you’re driving will have somewhere between 41 and 610 horsepower which narrows it down to most vehicles ever made except for supercars and a TukTuk. Hope that helped.

Yeah, a V6 Toyota Camry would blow that upper prediction out of the friggin water. Which reminds me, when did Camry’s start coming with 301 Horsepower?

with the increasing roll out of electrics, I think hp may level off with torque going through the roof.

2007, when the TRD Aurion (basically just a slightly nicer Camry for the Australian market) came out with a supercharger and 323 hp @ 6400, 295 lb-ft @ 4000.

...but yeah, just adding direct injection worked wonders for the naturally aspirated engine, apparently, getting it close to the supercharged engine on output.

In any case, my intent is to blow through the upper bound even further  - well, OK, it’s only claimed at 258 hp, but people have dynoed Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWDs at well over 300 at the wheels. But, like I said, that’s years away.

That’s a better comparison actually. Very interesting! I could make do with a slightly tuned RS7 or something.
